RedKings Mobile Poker App

RedKings Mobile Poker App
RedKings Mobile Poker is made for some older mobiles and smartphones with 3G connection. It can be played on many Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung and Motorola models. The full list of the supported phones can be found at RedKings Poker site. It doesn't work with new Android and iPhone devices and they are not supported at the moment. The software is a Java application and the tested version 1.50.3 was reviewed using Nokia N70.
Starting Menus
When you start the software the first selection you make is playing for real money or fun. Under the options there is a great help section with everything covered from controls to table selection and action at the tables. There are also some statistics gathered that can be read from the main menus. Statistics include your best played hands, real money & play money - stats and hand history.
Next one is the selection for Online or Offline play.
Offline play
Offline play is nice addition if you can't use 3G connection and still want to enjoy some poker or practise your skills before you go online. In Offline play you play a Texas heads-up or 10 player tournament against computerized players. You can choose from easy, medium or hard opponents. You have the option to start a new tournament or resume your last game. Under the Settings at the Offline table there is a nice option for "Fast forward". It speeds up the game when you have folded your hand and you fast skip the following action to your next hand.
Online play
In Online play you have the option for "Quick Seat" or "Table Selection" in finding your games. Quick seat takes you faster to your table right after you have chosen your game limit and stakes.
In Table Selection you can specify exactly how and where you want to play. All the games available at the mobile poker online version are Texas Hold 'em Cash games, but you can choose the stakes, table limits and table size.
Fixed limit, No Limit and Pot Limit are available with table sizes for 9 or 6 players and heads-up.
Limits and stakes are:
Fixed Limit:
0,5-1$, 1-2$, 2-4$
No Limit:
0,25-0,5$, 0,5$-1$, 1-2$
Pot Limit:
0,5-0,5$, 1-1$, 2-2$
Tables
Playing is made very simple and the table graphics are very distinct. Graphically it's not that much of an eye candy but at least the static avatars are in place like in any normal Ongame software. Action at the table was easy to follow. The one who's turn it is to act is highlighted and when it's the player's turn the betting options appear and timer starts running on bottom right corner of the screen. Although the N70 has a small screen the graphics didn't get too fuzzy and even the full 9 player tables were scaled to the screen perfectly.
For playing actions you have the normal Fold, Check and Raise buttons. There aren't any 1/2 pot, 3/4 pot, all-in etc. buttons available.
Under Menu you will find table info, chat mode, sit out, cashier and hand history.
Settings available are Auto-post blind, sounds and 4-colour deck.
There is even a limited chat mode where you can send pre-defined messages like "Thank you very much.".
Conclusion
RedKings Mobile poker was a positive surprise. Before the review I didn't think the older mobiles could deliver a good playing experience, but i had some fun with it. The graphics might not be as good looking as with the new poker apps, but u can't expect too much on that department from these phones. I was also surprised how many features this small application had, like: statistics, best played hands and hand histories. The Offline mode is a great addition too as you can practise your skills before you hit the online tables.
